HISTORY AND ART
Continuing on the Bari - Napoli motorway, we arrive at the
crossing keeper's box of Pomigliano Di Arc. we can reach the Santuario di Madonna
Dell’Arco. On the face of Madonna image, is still evident a dark spot, cause of
the gesture of a young, that flinged a bowl against the fresco.Her face as it had been
real, began to bleed. From those moments the devotion became such a lot that the small
church built after the first miracle was not enough.
The cult of the Virgin of the Arc finds its maximum
expression in the so called "fujenti" or "battenti", a phenomenon that
remains outstanding between the sacred and the profane.Groups of young dressed of white
(the "fujenti"), with red and-blue showy bands on their flanks, go around the
streets of country and town and-with a classic cry, catch the attention of anyone that
want to make an offer for the church.

LOCAL PRODUCTS
Walnuts and hazelnuts are the products which
distinguish this land. Very common are all the agricultural products in this
fertile and volcanic land: vegetables as tomatos and potatoes, aubergines and marrows,
enriche the table and help the canning industry.And then , fruit tree, hemp, maize and
quality legumes.
GASTRONOMY
A triumph of typical flavours and smells of the
land, is in the special dishes of this zone. A particular note goes to the [casatiello]
with cheese and pepper and the roasted artichokes Very famous is a particular walnut base
rosolio, the "nocillo".
